Heeeeat wave! It's the "12 Days of Christmas Movies" Christmas Movie Countdown, #1~

The final film on our list is from 1992 and still at the top: The Muppet Christmas Carol《布偶圣诞颂》starring Michael Caine and, of course, the whole Muppet gang. Even if you don't agree it's the best Christmas movie, you'd have to concede that it's the best film adaptation of Charles Dickens's 1843 novel A Christmas Carol. Right? Hands down, yes.

This film also has a special meaning to Westerners because it's the first Muppets movie after the death of Jim Henson, their creator. The world didn't know what to expect but was elated to see we'd still have Muppets in our lives.

This movie is for the whole family, where everyone can sing along, laugh along, and learn valuable life lessons together. There's a reason families watch this every year on Christmas Day.

In this adaptation of the Christmas story narrated by Charles Dickens himself (played by Gonzo) with the occasional commentary of Rizzo the Rat (who steals the show), it is Christmas Eve in 19th century London.

The merriment is not shared by Ebenezer Scrooge (Caine), a surly money-lender who is more interested in profit than celebration. So cold to the season of giving is he that his bookkeeping staff, including loyal employee Bob Cratchit (Kermit the Frog), have to plead with him just to have a day off work for Christmas by pointing out that Scrooge would have no customers on the holiday and that it would be a waste of coal to sit alone in the office.

Scrooge's nephew Fred arrives to invite his uncle to Christmas dinner with him and two gentlemen also come to Scrooge's offices collecting money in the spirit of the season to provide a Christmas dinner for the poor. Scrooge declines and complains that it is not worth looking after the poor, as their deaths will decrease the surplus population.

The night he's visited by the ghosts of his old partners and the ghosts of the past, the present, and the future. In the end, he sees that "giving" and "charity" is a much better lifestyle to uphold in this short time we all have here on earth.

Sadly, we were unable to find this movie streaming on the Chinese Internet. If you find it, let us know! Else, you'll have to buy it or download it for yourselves.
